What To Bring

Packing for Camp

We’ve created this list to help you pack for camp - some items are what you’d pack for any weekend riding trip, and others are more specific to spending full days learning new technical skills. If you have specific questions about what to bring, or your equipment, don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Clothing

Pack for all potential riding weather, including rain. We suggest a good quality rain jacket (not just a windbreaker), riding gloves, and an extra set of clothing if you’d like to change after riding. We will have a selection of riding jerseys, gloves and casual apparel available for purchase at camp if you want to refresh your gear, or take home an awesome souvenir.

Riding Pack

We suggest a bike specific backpack or hip pack to store water, tools and a small first aid kit. If you forget, don’t worry, we have hydration hip packs, hydration backpacks, and water bottles available for purchase at camp, and plenty of water and hydration beverages available to fill them up with.

Other things to include in your pack include sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a multi-tool, 2-3 tire levers, a patch kit, a hand pump and/or a CO2 cartridge and valve, a spare tube (that fits your bike) and a small roll of electrical or duct tape. We also suggest you bring a small first aid kit as scratches and bumps happen (although our coaches will also be prepared for this).

Lunch

Although we’ll set you up with a delicious assortment of snacks and beverages, we ask that you bring your own packed lunch to camp. We try our best to ensure all dietary restrictions are accommodated in our snack selection. In many locations there is not an opportunity to leave to pick up food, so please plan accordingly.

Other Gear

Mountain Bike

For all Dirt Series camps, you will need to bring a bike with, at minimum, front suspension that works appropriately. We recommend that all participants attend camp on a full suspension bike, and we only suggest downhill specific (triple crown) bikes at lift accessible camps.

Have your bike checked and tuned by a bike shop mechanic before you come to camp so that it’s in great working order and you’re set up for success. We can assist with minimal, on site, repairs and maintenance, but we don’t always have the specific parts or tools needed for each bike we see.

If you don’t own a mountain bike, many of our host shops offer rental programs at preferred rates, so that you can rent an appropriate bike for camp.

At this time, we do not have a complete demo fleet, so we cannot provide demo bikes at camp. If you have any questions or concerns about this, don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Helmet

Everyone needs to wear a helmet at all times while they are on a bicycle, so we suggest you pack an appropriate mountain-biking trail helmet. If you don’t have a helmet, we will have a limited number of helmets available for demo use at camp. Don’t forget to bring your riding glasses, or appropriate eye protection to go with your helmet.

We require a full-face downhill certified helmet if you’re riding downhill laps with us in a lift-accessed bike park, and recommend one for high speed gravity oriented skill development in general. Downhill helmets are best paired with goggles, so bring those if you can.

Please note - we do not have helmets in our demo fleet at this time, so if you don’t already own a trail or full-face helmet, please be prepared to rent one locally.

Arm and Leg Protection

If you have your own, please bring it with you. If not, we have knee and elbow product in our demo program and you’ll be welcome to try that out at camp.

Shoes & Pedals

We suggest that everyone brings flat soled shoes (like skateboarding shoes), and rides with flats at camp as they help develop proper technique when learning new skills. If you have flat pedals, please bring them with a pair of stiff, flat soled shoes to go with them. If you don’t have flat pedals, we have flat pedals and riding shoes in our demo program available for you to try.

If you are super comfortable on your clipless pedals, consider trying the morning sessions with flats and then switching to clipless for the afternoon rides.
